Meditation Instruction is available in a retreat format or ongoing training groups/sessions. The foundation of this work is being in the moment with the breath, body and mental and emotional states. We explore the many aspects of meditation: posture, discipline, concentration and the ability to be with things as they are.
Giving Language to Grief & Loss is a workshop/retreat exploring the ways we can cope with loss. How does grief enter our daily life? We take this time to be together in community to explore loss on practical, psychological and spiritual levels. Through the practices of meditation, visualization and conversation we will explore the ways in which loss impacts our lives.
Appreciating Your Life: Caring for Caregivers is a retreat and workshop for professionals who care for others. In the midst of our work of helping others, we often move out of balance with ourselves. This workshop is designed to create space for contemplation and rejuvenation. Through walking and sitting meditation, writing exercises, and group work we will look at what it means to heal others and care for ourselves.
Buddhist Chaplaincy Training Program
The New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care offers a yearlong training program to provide an introduction to spiritual care skills from a Buddhist perspective. This is a unique opportunity to study Buddhist principles and practices relevant to spiritual caregiving, as well as an introduction to the psychological, social, and ethical issues related to chaplaincy.
THE BURNING HOUSE: Exploring Spirituality & Addiction
In this retreat, we will be exploring our addictions and spiritual paths through the parable of the Burning House. We will use this parable to help us identify: our own Burning House, why it is we stay there, what keeps us inside the house, and what would it mean to leave this Burning House - moment to moment. Addiction is about cycling in our Burning House. There are many things we want to cling to such as: uncomfortable and difficult feelings, wonderful praise, painful realizations about ourselves, and perceptions about the truth of life. This retreat offers the opportunity to learn and practice with spiritual tools designed to help you stay in the present moment and work with difficulties in a new way. By the end of the retreat you will have tools to help you deepen your understanding of your own addictive process and face difficulties with courage.
